A clued word ladder gives the child a definition for every hidden rung — 'a farm building for animals and hay' — so the task shifts from open search to vocabulary: read the clue, work out the word, check that it is one letter away from the rung above. These sheets suit children who find blank ladders frustrating, and they work well for independent or homework use because the clue makes each step self-checking.

10 sheets of three ladders each, on US Letter. Every hidden rung has a clue of nine words or fewer, written in grade 2–3 vocabulary and checked so that no clue contains its answer. The answer page highlights the changed letter at each step.
