Five is the table children usually learn fastest, because every answer ends in a 5 or a 0 and the alternation is impossible to miss. It is also the most useful one outside the classroom: it is the table behind reading a clock face, counting money in nickels, and tallying in fives. These sheets start with the ordered count that makes the pattern obvious, then move to mixed recall, because the danger with an easy table is that children keep counting up rather than knowing the facts outright.

Ordered sheets from 5 x 1 to 5 x 12, mixed-order recall practice, and missing-number rows in both directions. Later sheets bring in the matching division facts. Row spacing is generous and each worksheet fits a single US Letter page in black and white, so a set for a class is one print job.

Frequently asked questions

Why do all multiples of 5 end in 5 or 0?
Because five is half of ten. Two fives make a ten, so every second multiple lands exactly on a ten and the ones in between land halfway, on a five. That alternation runs forever, which is why 5 x 47 must end in 5.
How does the 5 times table help with telling time?
Each number on a clock face is five minutes further round, so reading past the hour is the five times table applied to the numbers you can see. Children who know their fives read a clock face far more quickly, which is why the two topics are often taught close together.
Is there a link between the 5 and 10 times tables?
Yes — every five fact is half the matching ten fact. 5 x 8 is half of 10 x 8, so 80 becomes 40. For larger numbers that halving route is often faster than recalling the fact directly.
What age do children learn the 5 times table?
As an editorial guide, usually around ages 6 to 7, often at the same time as the twos and tens. Counting in fives typically comes first, sometimes through tally marks or by counting fingers across a group of children.
